COVID-19

COVID-19

At S.R.T. MedStaff, the safety and well-being of our staff and patients is our first priority. Since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Ontario, S.R.T. MedStaff has put into place several safety practices to align with the directives and recommendations of Health Canada, Ontario Health, and Public Health. With the ever-changing nature of the virus, we continue to review and update our policies to ensure we follow best practice. We also continue to educate our staff, which includes weekly updates posted to our intranet.

All staff are required to self-screen for symptoms twice daily. If they have even one symptom, they are required to call the office or nurse for further assessment. Further to this, staff are required to complete a questionnaire screener for every patient before every visit. If a patient is experiencing any symptoms, or has other COVID-19 risks, a nurse will follow up with them to complete a more detailed COVID-19 assessment. If a patient does not pass the screener, the nurse will provide support and guidance for next steps.

All staff are provided with universal personal protective equipment (PPE) – surgical masks, eye protection, and gloves – to wear while in the patient’s home for every visit. They also carry extra PPE and have full PPE kits to carry with them in case they require additional protection while out in the community. Patients, family members, caregivers, etc. are also required to wear a face mask (covering the nose, mouth, and chin) while staff are in the home. We also ask that patients/families adhere to lockdown measures and limit the number of people in the home, especially while our staff are present, to minimize exposures.

If a patient has COVID-19 or is identified as high risk, staff will be provided with full droplet PPE, which includes a gown in addition to the above, to wear in the home.

If an S.R.T. MedStaff nurse or personal support worker has a high risk exposure, or tests positive for COVID-19, they are removed from all shifts and advised to isolate and call Public Health. An S.R.T. MedStaff nurse will reach out to all patients that the employee had contact with during that period. Further, the employee will not return to work until cleared to do so by Public Health and S.R.T. MedStaff’s Return to Work Clearance Protocol.
